Wisconsin Law Review Symposium
October 14, 2016
Symposium: Modern Federal Judicial Selection
The Wisconsin Law Review; the WLR Symposium Editors; and collaborating professor Carl Tobias, University of Richmond, are pleased to present the WLR Fall 2016 Symposium, Modern Federal Judicial Selection. We are thrilled to announce that the keynote speaker will be Kristine Lucius, Senator Leahy’s Chief Counsel and Staff Director on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Accusations, recriminations, paybacks, and partisan disputes have plagued federal judicial selection and have worsened during the Obama Administration, as manifested by the recent, unprecedented standoff over filling Justice Scalia’s vacancy. This symposium assembles a broad spectrum of judges, scholars, and public officials to evaluate the modern federal judicial selection process. It explores important aspects of the contemporary process, including diversity and the roles of the branches of government during the selection process. This symposium will discuss the history of the selection process, the role of diversity in selection, and suggest future improvements.
The Wisconsin Law Review looks forward to continuing its tradition of engaging in diverse symposium topics. We hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Lyndsey Bley and Sean Znachko, Symposium Editors
